Experienced Rider Course (BRC2)

Motorcycle Endorsement Required

The Experienced Rider Course (BRC2) is designed for endorsed motorcyclists who want to sharpen their riding skills using their own motorcycle. This course focuses on advanced riding techniques and strategies that help riders respond with greater precision and confidence to real-world traffic and road conditions.

Special emphasis is placed on self-assessment, risk management, rider behavior, and advanced riding strategies, with particular focus on braking, cornering, and swerving.

Students who successfully complete the course may be eligible for a Delaware motorcycle liability insurance discount.

Registration Fees

  • Delaware residents: $35.00
  • Out-of-state residents: $100.00

Course Overview

  • Total Duration: 8 hours
    • 1 hour classroom instruction
    • 5–6 hours on-cycle riding
    • Lunch and breaks included (bag lunch and snacks recommended)
  • Motorcycle Requirement
    • Students must provide their own motorcycle
    • Motorcycle must be properly registered and insured in the student’s name
    • Documentation will be verified prior to the start of class
    • Motorcycles must pass a pre-ride instructor inspection

Students who fail to provide required documentation or whose motorcycles do not pass inspection will not be permitted to participate. This course is designed exclusively for single-track, two-wheeled motorcycles.

  • Advanced braking, cornering, and swerving techniques
  • Dangers of impaired riding

Riding Instruction Includes:

  • Review of basic riding skills
  • Advanced braking techniques
  • Precision cornering
  • Swerving and hazard avoidance

Successful Course Completion
To successfully complete the Experienced Rider Course, students must:

  • Attend all classroom and riding sessions
  • Pass a riding-skills evaluation

A pre-ride inspection will include tires, controls, lights, oil levels, chassis, and stands. Motorcycles with defects or unsafe modifications will not be permitted. The instructor’s decision is final.

If a motorcycle repeatedly disrupts class flow due to mechanical issues, the student may be dismissed from the riding portion of the course, and the registration fee will be forfeited.


Course Registration Information

Delaware Residency Definition

You are considered a Delaware resident if you:

  • Live in Delaware and hold a valid Delaware driver’s license, or
  • Are active-duty military (or a dependent) stationed in Delaware with a valid out-of-state driver’s license, or
  • Hold a valid out-of-state driver’s license and are enrolled full-time (minimum 12 credits) at an accredited Delaware college, university, or community college

Riders Under 18 Years of Age

Riders under 18 must:

  • Be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian of record at the first class session to sign the course waiver
  • Have completed driver education
  • Hold a full, unrestricted Class D license

Students with a Graduated Driver License (GDL) are not eligible. A GDL is a permit and is not upgraded to a Class D license until twelve months of supervised driving have been completed.

Course Schedules & Locations

Courses are offered at the following locations. The number in parentheses indicates how many courses are currently scheduled at each site.

Confirmation & Class Size

  • Course confirmation will be mailed upon receipt of payment unless otherwise notified
  • If confirmation is not received within 14 days, call (302) 744-2658 and leave:

Each course is limited to 12 students. Courses with fewer than 6 enrolled students may be cancelled. Students will be contacted to reschedule or request a refund.

Refund Policy

  • Student-requested refunds are subject to a $15.00 fee
  • Refund requests must be made at least 72 hours prior to the course start time

Required Riding Gear

Motorcycle riders are physically vulnerable. Wearing proper protective gear significantly reduces the risk of injury.

All students must wear the following during all on-cycle instruction:

  • DOT-compliant 3 quarter or full-face helmet (loaner helmets available)
  • Eye protection (face shield, glasses or goggles)
  • Over-the-ankle footwear with a low heel (leather preferred, no cloth or canvas shoes).
  • Jeans or sturdy long pants (no holes, no sweatpants, spandex, or yoga pants)
  • Long-sleeved shirt or jacket
  • Full-fingered gloves made of sturdy material (leather preferred)

Attendance & Weather Policy

  • Classes are held rain or shine
  • Weather-related cancellations are determined by the instructor at the training site
  • Classes begin on time

Absence from or tardiness to any portion of the course will result in unsuccessful completion and forfeiture of the registration fee.

The State of Delaware cannot guarantee acceptance of this course for motorcycle endorsement or insurance discounts in other states.
