Motorcycle Training Courses
Basic RiderCourse (BRC)
The Basic RiderCourse (BRC) is designed for new riders seeking a motorcycle endorsement and a strong foundation in safe riding practices.
Registration Fees
- Delaware residents: $50.00
- Out-of-state residents: $200.00
Course Structure
The BRC consists of two required segments
Segment 1: MSF Basic eCourse
An online tutorial completed independently before the first day of on-cycle training.
- A link to the eCourse will be emailed after registration.
- The eCourse must be completed prior to the start of the riding portion.
Segment 2: On-Cycle Riding Instruction
Hands-on motorcycle training conducted at an approved training site.
Most courses are held over two days (Saturday/Sunday or consecutive Wednesdays). Schedules include regular breaks and lunch. All training sites provide restroom access and weather shelter.
Physical Requirements, Attendance & Weather Policy
This course is mentally and physically demanding. Students should honestly assess their health before registering.
- Classes begin on time
- Classes are held rain or shine
- Be prepared to ride in hot, cold, windy, or wet conditions
- Classes will continue unless conditions are deemed unsafe by RiderCoaches
- Weather-related cancellations are determined on site
Absence from or tardiness to any portion of the course will result in unsuccessful completion and forfeiture of the registration fee.

- Riding subtasks
- Risk management strategies
- Visual acuity
- Impaired riding awareness
Riding Instruction Includes
- Proper use of motorcycle controls
- Basic riding techniques
- Straight-line riding, shifting, and stopping
- Turning, cornering, and braking
- Collision-avoidance maneuvers
Ongoing training and practice increase riding enjoyment and reduce the risk of crashes.
Successful Course Completion Requirements
To successfully complete the BRC, students must:
- Complete the MSF-eP 1x11 eCourse
- Attend all classroom and riding sessions
- Pass a written knowledge test
- Pass a riding-skills evaluation
Note: The eCourse link will be emailed approximately three weeks prior to the class start date and must be completed prior to attending the course.
Course Registration Information
Delaware Residency Definition
You are considered a Delaware resident if you:
- Live in Delaware and hold a valid Delaware driver’s license, or
- Are active-duty military (or a dependent) stationed in Delaware with a valid out-of-state driver’s license, or
- Hold a valid out-of-state driver’s license and are enrolled full-time (minimum 12 credits) at an accredited Delaware college, university, or community college
Riders Under 18 Years of Age
Riders under 18 must:
- Be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian of record at the first class session to sign the course waiver
- Have completed driver education
- Hold a full, unrestricted Class D license
Students with a Graduated Driver License (GDL) are not eligible. A GDL is a permit and is not upgraded to a Class D license until twelve months of supervised driving have been completed.
Course Schedules & Locations
Courses are offered at the following locations. The number in parentheses indicates how many courses are currently scheduled at each site.

- Course confirmation will be mailed upon receipt of payment unless otherwise notified

Each course is limited to 12 students. Courses with fewer than 6 enrolled students may be cancelled. Students will be contacted to reschedule or request a refund.
Refund Policy
- Student-requested refunds are subject to a $15.00 fee
- Refund requests must be made at least 72 hours prior to the course start time
Required Riding Gear
Motorcycle riders are physically vulnerable. Wearing proper protective gear significantly reduces the risk of injury.
All students must wear the following during all on-cycle instruction:
- DOT-compliant 3 quarter or full-face helmet (loaner helmets available)
- Eye protection (face shield, glasses or goggles)
- Over-the-ankle footwear with a low heel (leather preferred, no cloth or canvas shoes).
- Jeans or sturdy long pants (no holes, no sweatpants, spandex, or yoga pants)
- Long-sleeved shirt or jacket
- Full-fingered gloves made of sturdy material (leather preferred)

The State of Delaware cannot guarantee acceptance of this course for motorcycle endorsement or insurance discounts in other states.
State-Approved Program
